The following pages show the prices for Ovation Solid Bodied Electric guitars on ebay internationally. US prices are considerably lower than those I the UK but once shipping and duty are taken into account they are about par. The reason to buy abroad is because you cannot obtain the guitar in the UK. |

I have bought and sold on ebay for several years without any problems. I have found the descriptions to be very accurate and the seller extremely helpful and willing to communicate. It is said that people get to look like their pets, maybe they also reflect the guitars of their choice. Ovations are solid reliable, not too certain about the later super strats tho. Perhaps it is because I have not bought or attempted to buy any where the seller has not taken the trouble to describe the guitar and any blemish in detail. You develop a feel for it. Famous last words. |

So, sellers, give details of that dink, that chip, that buckle rash. It will encourage bidders rather than put them off. |

I have found Parcel2Go excellent in term of service and cost. Book on line, they collect the next day, and 2/3 day delivery usually means the 2. |

Buying in the US |

The shortage of guitars in this country has meant that I bought in the US, again without problem. I have found it easy and trouble free. |

Prices in the US are much lower, especially with the very good exchange rate at the moment. |

Some sellers are reluctant to use PayPal because of the fees. Money orders can be obtained from the bank [usually cost about £10]. While this does not present any real problems it may be worth the saving time/cost/inconvenience to offer to contribute to the PayPal charges |

Expect to pay about $100 for shipping. Less is a bargain and over $125 a bit steep.

Do not forget that you will have to pay duty and a ParcelForce fee. No matter who you ship with it usually end up this end with ParcelForce and they charge you for customs service. Expect a further 20% on the total cost. |

It is not worth getting the seller to reduce the value on the customs form . Most would not be willing to do this and I am suspicious of those would. It also reduce any insurance claim. |

Make sure that you get a tracking number and follow the progress of you package. Do not wait for the letter from ParcelForce to pay your duty and arrange collection

Allow a day for processing , then phone and pay the duty. This can be done with the tracking number. |

Don’t leave your bid too late, if you have not checked with the seller your bid may be rejected |

Some sellers refuse to ship outside the US. If it is an instrument that you simply
must have then, Parcel2Go offer a convenience address in Miami at a cost of about
£10 pa. A good deal but it can be a slow process and the total shipping cost will
be higher. Several item can be accumulated and shipped together. Expect to pay
around £60- |
