Created in 1980 as a replacement /development  for the magnum but like the guitar it never saw the light of day.  It looks as if Ovation were  either determined to preserve the Magnum or looking for a quick fix.  lThe PF Bass shows a very clear heritage to the Magnum base and is  sometimes mistake for one.  The body, although restyled has the stretched look of it’s predecessors.

The headstock and the striped  neck, [reinforced with graphite] the distinctive bridge and neck pickup, the three band graphic equalizer, front access battery box - all mark it out as a Magnum.

What makes it different is the loss of the bridge pickup and the sculptured fixed neck joint.

A pair of “finished”, ready for sale, PFs.  Not really a pair tho, as there are still several differences.

With only 25 made, all PFs are rare.  Here, alongside the more usual natural Ash finish is an ever rarer one with a high gloss Rootbear finish.

Originally in Sam Desaparicio’s collection these are now both in the EU, the Ash model in France and the Tobacco in the UK.
